UEMS European Laryngology Fellowship Program

Laryngology is an expanding field and is incorporated in most ENT residency programs in the US and Europe. However, to fully train the new generation of laryngologists it is important that training centers within Europe offer further postgraduate training (i.e. post MD/fellowship training) to equip young laryngologists with the modern clinical skills they need to practice successfully in this field. To this end, the ELS has defined what should be included in a postgraduate (fellowship) program in the field of laryngology. This fellowship curriculum has been officially approved by the UEMS as a European postgraduate training program in laryngology. On successful completion of the curriculum the fellow will obtain the title Graduate of European training in Laryngology.

Please see the link below for the full description of the fellowship curriculum and the fellowship log book.

There is currently one center validated by ELS board that accommodates fellows in laryngology: the Ospedale Policlinico San Martino-University of Genoa, Italy. Furthermore, three centers have agreed on a joint fellowship for a particular applicant – these include Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, the Netherlands; Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust – Charing Cross Hospital, London, UK. This joint fellowship was successfully completed at the end of 2023.

Centers interested in certification for this official European training program in laryngology can apply to the Presidential Council of the ELS. It is important to observer that the fellowship positions are not financed by the ELS.

The ELS is currently not handling fellowship applications. This website serves only to inform about the curriculum and to list approved centres.
